How much fragrance oil on how much wax?

In order to pour a fragrant candle, it is important to know the correct proportion of fragrance oil to candle wax.

Correct proportions of oil

Formula

Our candle fragrance oils are all 100% optimized for candles. You can find this technical information about the fragrance oils and other areas of application in specific documents - the IFRA documents. The dosage of the fragrance is usually given as a percentage, for example 5% or 10%. This percentage refers to the total weight of the wax.

You can easily calculate the amount of fragrance oil using the following formula.

Here's an example:

1. Determine the total weight of wax you want to use for your candle. For example 200 grams.

2. Multiply the total weight of the wax by the recommended percentage of fragrance. Assume the recommended percentage is 5%.

The simple formula:

200 grams * 0.05 (equivalent to 5%) = 10 grams

3. The result, in this case 10 grams, indicates how many grams of fragrance you should use for the 200 grams of wax.

Note: This is the simple formula that is often used but is not entirely correct. It is interesting that 200g wax + 10g fragrance oil = 210 grams wax.

This can result in too much scented candle wax being produced. However, with individual candles this is not a problem and can be ignored.

The exact formula is:

200 grams (corresponds to the entire candle) / 100 = 2 (the factor)

5 (equivalent to 5%)  * 2 (factor)   =    10 grams of fragrance oil

200 grams (corresponds to the entire candle) - 10 grams of fragrance oil = 190g candle wax

The result, in this case 10g of fragrance oil and 190g of wax, claims to create a 200 gram candle with 5% fragrance oil content.

Note: A glass with a content of 120ml, for example, does not fit 120g of candle wax. To get the exact amount, place the empty glass on an adjusted scale and reset the scale to 0. Then fill the liquid candle wax into the glass according to your desired capacity and weigh it. The wax can then be returned and the glass cleaned.

It is important to follow the wax manufacturer's dosing instructions as too much fragrance oil may cause the candle to not burn properly or give off an unpleasant odor.
