How can I avoid candle soot?

Here you can find all you need for making your own candles...

All you need is...

  • Candle wax (paraffin, rapeseed or soy wax)
  • A candle or mason jar, a can or a cup
  • CandleCraft candle colors
  • Wick(s) A pot or a double-walled water bath (e.g. a simmer or milk pot)
  • A thermometer And a stirring stick

Step 1: Prepare materials

  • Choose the container of your choice, such as a glass jar, and clean it
  • Measure or wheigh the wax needed
  • Choose one or more favorite candle colors

Step 2: Place wick

  • Attach the wick to the centre of the container.
  • You can secure the wick to the bottom of the container with a wick stick or a glue dot to keep it straight.

Step 3: Melt wax and add color

  • Melt the wax in a wax melting pot or double-walled water bath
  • Pay attention to melting, mixing and pouring temperatures and to follow the wax manufacturer's instructions
    • It is important that the wax does not get too hot, it must not boil and should only be heated to 80°C (use the thermometer for this)
  • Once the wax has melted, you can add the candle dye
    • Use a dye specifically recommended for candles - the exact amount depends on the intensity of the color you want
    • Start with a small amount and mix well to distribute the color evenly
    • Add more dye as needed to achieve the desired depth of color
  • Stir the wax thoroughly to ensure the dye is evenly distributed

Step 4: Pouring

  • Carefully pour the melted wax into the container, keeping the wick in the centre.
  • Allow the wax to cool completely and harden.
  • Please note that the color of the finished candle may look slightly when burning than when it is liquid
  • We recommend a rest and drying period of at least 1-2 days.

Step 4: Cut the wick

  • Cut the wick to the desired length Voilà! Your homemade candle is ready to spread coziness.
